Content Browser and assets
Create, import, place and keep editing assets.
The Content Browser shows your project’s assets folder: the folder tree on the left and its contents, with live thumbnails, on the right. Change the thumbnail size with Size or Ctrl+wheel.
Asset types
Like in Unreal, each thing is an asset you create once and place in your levels as many times as you want:
| Type | File | Opens in |
|---|---|---|
| Blueprint | .prefab.json | The viewport, Outliner and Details of the asset |
| Static Mesh | .mesh.json | The same, with the Modeling mode |
| Material | .material.json | The node graph, with a preview |
| Sound | .sound.json | The sound editor with nodes |
| Particle System | .particles.json | The particle editor |
| Geometry Nodes | .geometry.json | The geometry graph |
| Sequence | .sequence.json | The Timeline |
| Script | .rhai | The code editor |
Create and import
- + New (or right-click → New) makes a folder or any asset type. You type the name right away.
- Save as Asset in an object’s Details turns it into an asset, linked to the new file.
- Import copies anything the engine uses (models, textures, sounds, scripts) into the open folder. You can also drag files from your file explorer onto the window; dropping a model on the viewport imports and places it.
Models: glTF and GLB are copied as they are. OBJ (with its .mtl and textures) and STL are converted to GLB. FBX isn’t read directly: export it to glTF first (in Blender: File → Export → glTF 2.0).
Place and edit
- Drag a model or asset into the viewport to place it, or double-click it to place it in the center.
- Drop a material or texture on an object to apply it. A texture creates a material; if there’s an image called “Name Normal”, it’s used as the normal map.
- Double-click an asset to edit it in its own tab. Save (Ctrl+S) updates every copy in your levels.
Copies keep their own changes
A placed copy can be changed like any object. Its position and name are its own, and anything else you change stays only on that copy, even when the asset changes. Its Details show which asset it comes from and what changed, with Edit Asset, Apply to Asset, Revert and Unlink.
Moving or renaming an asset in the browser doesn’t break its copies.
Organise
Rename (F2), duplicate, move by dragging to another folder (or with Move to) and delete (it asks first). Search and the type filter look in the open folder and the folders inside it. Each asset has a stripe in the color of its type.
