Panels and workspaces
Dockable panels, workspaces, the Outliner, Details and Preferences.
Dockable panels
Every panel is a tab you can dock. Drag a tab by its title to reorder it, put it next to, above or below another panel (the drop zones light up while you drag), group it with others or pull it out into a floating window. Editors for graphs, materials, meshes and sounds open as tabs next to the viewport and can go anywhere too.
The Window menu opens and closes each panel.
Workspaces
Workspaces are saved layouts for different jobs, like in Blender. Switch between them with the tabs at the top right:
| Workspace | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Level | A big viewport, the mode tools, Outliner, Details, and the Content Browser, Timeline and log below |
| Modeling | The viewport and the mesh tools |
| Logic | Logic graphs and the code editor |
Each workspace remembers its layout. Save Layout As… stores the current one with a name and Reset to Default puts it back the way it came. Layouts are saved when you close the editor.
Outliner
The scene hierarchy, with search, a type column and an eye to hide things.
- Click, Ctrl+click and Shift+click to select.
- Double-click or F2 to rename.
- Drag a row onto another to parent it; drop it in the gap below to unparent.
- Right-click for rename, focus, copy, duplicate, delete, add an empty child, unparent and more.
Details
Like Unity’s inspector: name, visibility, tags, transform and a block for each component (mesh, model, material, light, camera, physics or trigger, player, movement, script, logic graph, variables, particles…).
- The … menu on a block resets or removes it.
- Add Component opens the component list with search and categories.
- With several objects selected, what you change or add applies to all of them.
World Settings (next to Details) controls the sky, ambient light, fog, exposure, bloom, tone curve, vignette and chromatic aberration.
