Motion graphics
Titles, lower thirds, counters and animated logos made with shapes, text and the Timeline.
Omnion makes motion graphics with the same tools as the rest of the engine: vector shapes and text for the pieces, the Timeline to animate them, one set of easings for how they move, and Render to export the result. Everything stays editable, and anything you make can also run inside a game.
The quickest start is the Motion Graphics template in the launcher: a ten-second intro where a ring draws itself while a counter reaches 100 %, shapes spring out, the title pops in letter by letter and a lower third slides in. Open sequences/Intro.sequence.json in the Timeline to see how each piece is keyed.
Set up the frame
Motion graphics are usually flat and measured in pixels. Use a camera with Projection › Orthographic and Visible Height 10.8 m, looking straight at your shapes: it frames 1920 × 1080 with 1 m equal to 100 px, so a 0.42 m text is 42 px tall in the video. Build on the plane z = 0 and look at it with Alt+H (front view).
In the viewport’s eye menu, turn on Safe Frames. It shows the frame of your render (the size chosen in Timeline › Render), darkens what falls outside it, and draws two guides inside: action safe (93 %) and title safe (90 %). Keep text and anything important inside the inner one.
Build the pieces
- Create › Text and Shapes adds rectangles, ellipses, polygons, stars, arcs and lines, with fill, stroke, dashes and trim. See Vector shapes.
- Text, Text 3D and Counter add titles, labels and numbers that count. See Text.
- Import SVG… in the same menu brings in a logo or an icon as shapes, ready to animate.
New shapes and texts are flat and unlit, so they show exactly the colors you pick. For colors that match your brand to the value, set World Settings › Tonemapper to None.
Animate
Right-click any property and choose Animate, or add a track in the Timeline, then key it. A few recipes:
- Pop in: key Scale from 0 to 1 with Spring or Back.
- Draw on: key a stroke’s Trim End from 0 to 1. On an ellipse with only a stroke, that’s a progress ring.
- Count up: key a Counter’s Value, with Ease Out so it slows down at the end.
- Letter by letter: add a text animator (Typewriter, Fade Up, Pop In, Slide Lines, Scramble or Wave) and key its Offset from 0 to 1. See Text animators.
- Slide in: key Position from outside the frame with Ease Out.
Stagger the keys of similar pieces by a few hundredths of a second and they come in one after another. Every easing and its settings are in Curves and easing.
The game UI animates the same way, so menus and HUD elements can move like titles. See Animating the game UI.
Crisp edges
For flat graphics, set World Settings › Anti-Aliasing to MSAA and turn Ambient Occlusion off (MSAA doesn’t work with it, and unlit shapes don’t need it). TAA, the default for 3D scenes, blends the last frames, and that smears anything that changes every frame, like a counting number or a stroke being drawn.
Export
Render in the Timeline exports an MP4 video or one PNG image per frame. With PNG and Background › Transparent, everything that isn’t a shape or a text is see-through, ready to lay over a video in your editing software. See Render your sequence.
